Taking care of your Brain is probably one of the most important things you can do for you and your family. We may think taking care of the brain is something just for old people – but why not start caring for the brain as soon as possible? Why wait for a crisis to take action?
Here are my 7 Tips on How to Keep Your Brain Healthy:
1. Make time for intentional peace. Pray, meditate, practice deep breathing or journal. Whenever you consciously make time to slow down your brain and rest – the brain starts to heal and recover. Please spend even a few minutes a day doing this activity.
2. Alignment. Keeping the spine in alignment keeps pressure off the nerve system. If the nerve system works without pressure or interference (especially in the neck area by the skull) the brain can function at a higher level. This can help keep you relaxed, focused and improve memory.
3.Food. Certain foods are good for the brain including fish, blueberries, nuts (especially walnuts) and oranges. Water is also essential and directly impacts brain function.
4. Exercise. We know exercise is good for the heart and muscles – but more research is showing that regular exercise will keep your brain healthy. Oxygen and specific hormones are released that keep your brain sharp.
5. Sleep. Sleep is not a passive process. Sleep is when the body repairs itself from the activities from the day. It seems like sleep actually removes toxins from the brain so it’s ready for the next day. Make sleep a priority.
6. Relationships. Having people you can trust and rely on is a positive for mental health. Work on your relationships over your lifetime and your brain and your heart will thank you for it.
7. Purpose/Learning. For the rest of your life – have a purpose. You need to have a reason to get up in the morning. Maybe it’s to be a great spouse or parent. To be great at your job. To help others. Whatever it is – always have a goal. A purpose. And – try to learn something new every day. This will keep your brain healthy and active.
I wish you only good health and peace. Please use these tips for yourself and your family and friends.
